Briefing
Nothing escapes from Alcatraz, nothing. Since The California Free State renovated, modernized, and reinstated the historic prison of Alcatraz Island it has been deemed even more inescapable that it was during its initial use. That is why Hashiro Makoto is so suspicious.
Makoto was serving a 10 year prison sentence on Alcatraz Island for his dealings with the Yakuza, most Yakuza arrests were held on Alcatraz because most mainland prisons were considered to great of a risk for a break out. During his stay a peculiar case caught his interest, Kumiko Nakamura shared his cell for approximately a month on The Rock before he was transfered away. Word later spread that 'Doc' had escaped during his transfer from Alcatraz and was now free, though on the run. If you considered him a prisoner of Alcatraz he was the first person ever to successfully escape.
The rumor was that Doc used his extensive medical knowledge and well documented allergy to pollutants to fake cardiac arrest during his transfer, while receiving medical attention he was able to escape. The rumors sat well with most people, they didn't really give it much thought, but Makoto had a lot of time to think and he never let it ago. His prison sentence was up about a year later and when he was released he did a bit of research to see what became of his former cell mate.
This presents an obvious problem for Doc, and as a result a potential significant problem for F.A.T.E. Not only does it severely endanger one of their main operatives, but it risks exposing the extistence of the secret organization to the most powerful and feared underground organization in the city. Obviously F.A.T.E. would like to make sure that Doc is the only thing that escapes Alcatraz Island.

Session Synopsis
Dr. Yau has had several days to examine the contents of the stolen truck. He believes the devices to be some sort of mana-battery. The bulk of the device is made up of energy cells with a construction that Yau has never seen before. The material used to store the energy is radioactive, which explains why the batteries are being assembled at Drakes Bay. These cells are connected to unique converter that transforms it into electrical current. He has not been able to get the device to work, but the implications of such a device are quite clear. Using mana as power is literally like pulling energy out of thin air and could revolutionize the electronics industry. But at what cost?
That's why FATE took up the case to begin with. Director Redman revealed to the group that their initial involvement stemmed from a concern voiced by a member of the Pythagoreans, a hermetic magic group in the city. Their concern is that such a device could wreak havoc on mana and the astral planes in a dramatic way. FATE agreed that this was a top concern especially with the R&D centered in their jurisdiction.
But there was a more pressing concern -- Doc's former cellmate at Alcatraz had just been released and Redman had a hunch that this was bad news for Doc. Perhaps he knew a bit more than he let on initially. He suggested Doc pay a visit to his former cellmate and make sure that the release of this man was no risk to Doc's residence in the city.
Doc took the direct approach and tracked down Makoto to a Yakuza bar. Makoto suggested they meet for a drink later in the evening and Doc begrudgingly accepted. They met again that night, prepared for--and expecting--the worst. However, Doc masterfully guided the conversation and kept his story consistent and convincing to the group. Makoto pulled him to the side and they struck a deal: Makoto would keep quiet about his suspicions regarding Doc; in return, Doc would supply him with a fake SIN and eliminate a yakuza member that had dirt on both Makoto and Doc.
Doc had a heated discussion with J.P. Redman, unhappy that information about his employment and possibly exposing him as a yakuza snitch is out in the public. Redman agreed to provide Motoko's fake SIN and blessed the use of FATE resources to help Doc take care of this problem.
Doc and Anastasia got their assassination target to agree to a motorcycle race. At a point in the race where the bikers were making difficult jumps on the steep San Francisco city streets, Eric was in position to use stun bolt. He successfully knocked the target unconscious as he was making the jump, and the ensuing fall produced a gruesome end for the man. Doc and Anastasia continued to race and Doc won by a narrow margin.
