Comments: 1) Are you aware that the War charms do not require the first excellency but the third or fourth? There are still obvious reasons to take the First, I was just making sure. 2) Is your ally going on the trip with us? If so, we should probably flesh her out sooner rather than later. Also, is she going to the party? Aden would probably be privy to your relationship and would have invited her if appropriate. --Macabreengel 09:08, 20 May 2011 (EDT)

I did not catch that about the War charms. Thanks for the heads up. I'll adjust that.

I'm still figuring this ally thing out. What you posted on the talk page leads me to believe Brian is also going to have an ally - would this make the trip too crowded? Cad's girlfriend is actually another character I had an idea for who didn't make the final cut, but I still liked. I'll flesh her out a bit here.

The book mentions that the Heptagram is the smallest of the academy, which put the thought into my head that there might be some DB's who dream of going there but don't make it. Cad's girlfriend would be one such case - she's from House Ledaal, and although she was always interested in the occult (Demonology in particular), she didn't take primary school very seriously, and was one of Ledaal's less qualified candidates for admission (it probably isn't a stretch to imagine that lots of people from Ledaal aspire to attend the Heptagram). Her parents are still quite influential (she would come from a higher birth than Cad), so she was able to gain admission to the House of Bells. She is a capable, though otherwise unremarkable military officer who's real interest remains sorcery and occult studies (she graduated just fine, not anywhere near the top or bottom of the graduating class - although she did ace all of her courses in combat sorcery). Although I haven't written Cad's personality blip yet, he's going to end up sort of being someone who was forced into a mold he didn't quite fit - Cad's natural talents are perhaps better suited for political or espionage work (notice that Socialize is favored instead of Presence - Presence is only higher because Cad has been forced to take so many classes in battlefield leadership, for example), and I tried to set up his abilities to reflect someone who successfully endured military training, but perhaps isn't entirely passionate about it. I think Cad and his girlfriend would have bonded over both being people who felt the military life wasn't quite for them, but were smart enough or determined enough to succeed in it despite that.

If the ally doesn't work out, I still plan on having her be a character, but perhaps she doesn't come on the trip with us, and I'll reserve the ally dot for later (for example, maybe when we return to the Realm, I'll write a story about them rekindling their relationship). If I don't bring her along, I'm probably going to switch the ally to a one-dot bird familiar. It's easy for me to imagine noble boys in the Realm practicing falconry.

I'm also still deciding the exact nature of their relationship and if they're still actively dating. If she's not coming on the trip, I'm probably going to start with her and Cad on the rocks, in which case she probably wouldn't be at the party. If she is coming on the trip, I'd probably have her and Cad still together, and she'd be at the party.

Either bringing her along or rekindling the relationship later would be fine. I told Brian that either he could make his ally or I could, so same thing stands for you. Ally 1 just uses regular character creation rules. They will get full XP, but no bonus xp for stories. (Which is 2 per story, I dont know if I told you that, also, you get three for completing your background.) If you decide to go with the familiar, just post what you think is appropriate and we can discuss any changes that may need to be made. --Macabreengel 12:30, 20 May 2011 (EDT)
