Background

The story of Peleps Mardok is a well-known tragedy among naval circles and scholars of contemporary military history in the Realm. Although he is currently a commodore commanding a small group of patrol ships, he was at one point a Rear Admiral (the navy's youngest at the time) serving as the head of military intelligence for Admiral Peleps Eralin and often reporting findings to Lord High Admiral Sorugan himself. When it was found that he had abused his connections for his own gain and used them to establish a network of even less savory contacts, even at the expense of the Navy, he was cast out of the admiralty and shunned by the Lord High Admiral. Out of mercy, familial loyalty, or perhaps an owed favor (there are many - Mardok also used his connections to accrue favors from many of the Realm's movers and shakers), Admiral Eralin installed Mardok as commodore of a small coastal patrol fleet. This fleet, designed as a recon and first response unit against marine espionage and Anathema, allows Mardok to continue interfacing with many of his contacts in the intelligence community, leading many to speculate that Eralin and Mardok have an arrangement of some kind.
