Background

When Barry was born The Italian Confederation was still known as Italy, though the foundation of European culture was already beginning to crumble. Barry was born to a relatively poor family in the city of Milan, his father was a native Italian and his mother Swiss; in order to provide enough food for Barry and his siblings to eat his father traveled around frequently. As the oldest son, Barry started to travel with his father at a young age and spent much of his time in the city of Turin. Barry was 10 and was working alongside his father in Turin when the devastation of the collapsed nation caught up to them, Turin was hit harder than anywhere else in the country. Barry's father didn't survive and the rest of his family was still in Milan, Barry had to find a way to survive in the desolate Genoa-Milan-Turin Special Administrative Zone (GeMiTo).

The GeMiTo Sprawl is a territory between and including the three former cities of Genoa, Milan, and Turin that was overtaken by the anarchy of nation's collapse. Government military and corporate security efforts to quell the initial chaos only made the situation worse, both the government and corporations quickly cut their losses and abandoned the now 10 million residents of GeMiTo. Fortunately for Barry, he had a very unique skill that helped him survive the streets of the sprawl and eventually to get out of them.

Barry's adept powers manifested at a fairly young age and he quickly developed them beyond what an untrained boy his age should have been able to, his impressive magical talent helped him survive. Compared to mundane people in the sprawl he was at a tremendous advantage, and the conservative Italian government stayed far enough away from GeMiTo they would never put a stop to his use of magic. Eventually his prodigious magical talent caught the attention of the Societa Thaumaturgica. A very impressive and influential magical school that resides within the Palazzo Carigna within Turin, the only parts of the city to survive the destruction and chaos of GeMiTo surround the Palazzo Carigna in a almost museum like state. Barry had started to develop a rather strong anarchist streak of his own while living on the streets, and his dislike of authority nearly prevented him from attending the Societa, his talent was matched by his arrogance alone. That is until he was humbled; Gaius Francis Esposito was the headmaster of the Societa and took interest in Barry's recruitment. As a mystic adept Gaius could have easily forced Barry to accept, but instead challenged Barry in a test of adept powers and refused to use magic. Even still Gaius easily bested the young Barry, going so far as to toy with and taunt him as Barry had others who had attempted to recruit him. Shamed and humbled by the far more skilled headmaster Barry began attending the Societa Thaumaturgica, Barry quickly discovered he fit in here much better than he ever had on the streets.

• Father is killed during the downfall of the Italian Nation and the resulting chaos, Barry is separated from the rest of his family in Turin.

2034

• Admitted into the Societa Thaumaturgica after recruitment by Headmaster Gaius Francis Esposito.

2041

• Graduation from the Societa Thaumaturgica.

2041-2045

• Joins the Italian Confederation's military and sees light combat duty during the end of the Euro Wars.

2045-2051

• Joins the United Nations Armed Forces (UNAF), known as the Blue Helmes in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • 2048 - Takes part in U.N. Intervention Operation 'RECIPROCITY'

2051-2060

• Transfers to Liberty Island, NY to work in the U.N. Anti-Terrorist Coalition Organization. (UNATCO)
  • 2055 - Involved in the Chicago Insect Incident and the resulting creation of the Chicago Containment Zone. (CCZ)
  • 2058 - Once again stationed in Chicago when Ares releases 'Strain III' into the CCZ.

2060-2064

• Transfers to U.N. Initiative on Awakened Issues Organization (UNIAI) in Metropole, Amazonia.
  • 2060 - A founding member of the UNIAI.
  • 2062 - After the 'Year of the Comet' funding for UNIAI sees exponential growth.
  • 2064 - Takes part in covert intelligence strikes against Winternight Terrorist Group.
  • November 2nd - Disappears from U.N. suddenly during Crash 2.0. Labeled MIA.

• Resurfaces in the California Free State as an independent military consultant.
