Background

Typhon is a canon character, and his background information can be found in Manual of Exalted Power: Abyssal.

The Trials of the Seven Gods of Fortune

After Seven Seasons Widow returned to Thorns, Typhon began haunting the northeastern reaches of the Scavenger Lands. The group first encountered him in a small village near the corrupted forest while completing a trial set forth by one of its insane sovereigns. Typhon had come to claim a child that another Deathlord had slated for the black Exaltation, and reached an accord with Whispers From Beyond, agreeing that Typhon would retreat peacefully if Arkanian slew the boy with soulsteel, forever depriving any Deathlord of his soul. Lazarus attempted to rally the town against Typhon, a sorcerer of some skill, who responded by unleashing a flurry of Obsidian Butterflies on the townspeople, slaying all but one of them. The group briefly encountered him again outside of the corrupted forest patch. Steel Heart's Fury was quick to attack, but, then inexperienced by comparison, was unable to overcome the necrotic energies the Deathknight brought to bear. Though the group has yet to identify the direct methods employed, they have drawn the conclusion that it was Typhon who, with his dark whispers of horrors otherwise untold, drove Gama to suicide and fed the spirits poisoned seeds, transforming them into rabid, corrupt creatures of darkness. Aktuelle and his companions theorize that Typhon was hoping to create a small Shadowland to use as a base of operations for Thorns' business in Great Forks.

The Risen Shadow

During their investigation, Aktuelle and Arellious traveled the height of the Scavenger Lands in hopes of uncovering the source of blight in the Marukan Alliance. Having determined it to be necromantic, Thorns was a prime suspect. A meeting of the Council of the Concordat is soon to be called, and as a representative from Thorns, Typhon will be traveling to Nexus. The group hoped to find him there and ascertain his role in the spreading of plague.

A brutal social battle between Remus, Aktuelle, and Typhon ensued. After Domino took Aktuelle out of the picture, Typhon managed to paint the picture of Remus as a warmongering tyrant, and things appeared to be tipping in his favor until a group of Exalts, unknowingly lead by Arkanian in the form of Takeshi, discovered Typhon's portal to the Underworld, hidden in Mausoleum. Typhon outed himself as a necromancer by attempting to kill the group with a summoned bone lion. Although the bone lion was enough of a threat to force Arkanian to blow his cover, the group slayed it and brought their case against Typhon to the council. Although he thrown out of the rest of the Council session, he managed to free himself of outright guilt by claiming the creature was a guardian programmed to fight off anyone invading his stronghold, and thus no direct hostility was intended. After a silver-tongued apology, Typhon was dismissed but no sanctions were made against Thorns.

Heavy Lies the Crown

Typhon is at the height of his power. With the death of the Seven Seasons Widow, Typhon controls the largest spy network in all of Creation and the Underworld. As the herald of the Mask of Winters, he is the most influential deathknight in the Scavenger Lands - he handles Thorns's foreign affairs, and his honeyed words have made Thorns many allies, despite its controversial ruling party. Typhon is keen to illustrate that Thorns is the only hope the Confederation has at defending itself against another undead threat (the Walker in Darkness).

As Typhon's ambitions grow with his power, small inklings of heroism fan the embers of nobility that once glowed brightly in his soul. He wonders if, perhaps, he can make true his deceptions, transforming Thorns into a genuinely noble state once again - under the Deathlord's regime, or, otherwise...
