==Background==
Empyrean was the eldest son of an everyday family in West Gem. His father was a self-proclaimed entrepreneur; his endeavors in the blacksmithing and firewand construction businesses lasted only a few years before they ultimately collapsed. From adolescence, Empyrean was exceptionally brilliant compared to his peers. He spent much of his time growing up at the library, absorbing written material and learning new languages. He always had the ambition to follow in his father's footsteps, and perhaps one day start a business that would succeed.

He pursued these dreams in his teenage years, joining a small merchant guild at first to raise enough money to start his own. He created a joint venture with his oldest brother, a trade business that grew quickly. The deliveries and caravans he managed took him to nearly every corner of the south: from Gem to The Lap, Harborhead, An-Teng, the Varang City States, Chiaroscuro, and even Paragon, Gem's trading rival. His business built a good reputation on the fact that they had never lost a shipment. Empyrean's navigation skills were uncanny.

The day his business lost its first shipment was the last day the business existed, for Empyrean's life changed forever from that day forward. The day began with his crew's final preparations for the caravan that was heading back to Gem from The Lap. The shipment contained nothing particularly worthwhile, so the group expected little resistance on the long journey. Shortly before leaving, Empyrean met a young warrior seeking transport. He wasn't particularly concerned with where the caravan was headed; anywhere but The Lap would suffice, Empyrean gathered. It was no great risk, he figured, and the man had the money to pay for it.

As the caravan began its journey, Empyrean learned only a little of what was troubling the young warrior. He was being tracked, but would not say by whom, nor would he identify himself. The warrior warned that his presence was a danger to the entire group, but Empyrean had never lost a shipment and felt that he could handle whatever was thrown his way. He would be wrong.

==Personality==
Empyrean is collected and confident with a hint of arrogance. He is mentally agile and knows it, a skill that feeds his ego. He is easy to talk to and projects a positive image; he is an unabashed optimist.

==Motivation & Intimacies==
Empyrean's motivation is to illustrate to all of creation, in particular his fellow Gold Faction Sidereals, that his exemplary foresight and exceptional intuition make him the most fit to lead the Gold Faction to success and usher in a new era.
