Talk:Ravenous Moon, Waning Heart

From The Whereabouts

Although she's currently listed as a half-caste, I don't believe she falls into that category. Half-castes are the children of Celestial Exalted who are imbued with a measure of their power. I don't know if she's genetically a Person of the Air or a Wyld Mutant, but both of those would probably put her in the "Heroic Mortals" category. Her story makes it seem to me that she's a Wyld mutant, although now that I think about it, it would be pretty cool if she had always assumed her wings were due to her mother's exposure to Wyld energies while pregnant, but later found out that she had a Person-of-the-Air relative/ancestor, and her wings are a result of that - I don't know too much about her personality or if you've thought about it, Tony, but I could sort of see her being a little ashamed of them at times (Ash would tell her not to be, and she'd be a lot better about it now than she used to be, but it would creep up every now and then), and then upon learning that they're a trait inherited from ancestors, the wings become a source of pride. People of the Air do seem to have universally white wings, so we still may chalk the red-ness of them up to the Wyld :P.

Anyway, I like the character and the half-caste label got me thinking about her history, so I decided to throw up a suggestion.

((As a side note, Scroll of Heroes does say that People of the Air and humans are interfertile, and that mixed-species children may be born with or without wings, so it's possible that her mother may not have known about the ancestry because it had been a generation or two since a winged child was born. Again, all brainstorming, but I got to thinking so I wanted to write it down here.))

Yeah, you are right. She is definetly not a half-caste. I just didn't feel like changing the label after Brian put her in a category. I would agree that she is probably in the mortal category either way, as a wyld mutant or as one of the people of the air. I've always liked the idea of her being one of the People of the Air, I built her character creation wise as such. Though her back story does not necessarily reflect a true People of the Air ancestry. I do like your idea of it being hidden in her bloodline somewhere and any strange effects, like red wings, were the result of the Wyld as opposed to the wings themselves.

As far as how she feels about them, I would guess she has a growing but shaky confidence with them. She was pretty much enslaved and treated poorly her entire life because of them. Though Ash would obviously try to discourage her occasional dislike of the wings, generally speaking Ash is pretty against the "I wish I were normal" thing. She's is also very young, and very small so she appears childlike at times. I would imagine her to be fairly quiet, though very comfortable around people who aren't (she hangs out with Ash a lot).

Speaking of her, I've been meaning to ask about doing experience for her. I was going to give her experience for any moments/stories I write that detail her. (I have a couple planned with her and ash and the crew) On top of that I wasn't sure how you wanted to do experience from sessions. Typically allies get some exp growth so they remain relevant throughout a storyline, though there is also the fact that so far at least she is pretty heavily involved in the missions themselves. I was debating between giving her full exp for the mission we go on (her growth will be slower than ours anyway as she will pay mortal exp costs) or at least giving her half.
