Background

There was a time when the streets of Nexus belonged to one man. There was a time when honor among thieves existed as more than an excuse. There was a time, however brief, when the Guild's word was not law.

Perhaps no one man did so much damage to the Guild as the Solar thief known to Creation as Eden. Born to the streets and raised by the same, Eden had known no other life save that of a thief's at the time of his Exaltation. Used to having to steal to survive and given a strong head by the talent he'd been blessed with his whole life, he plunged headstrong into a number of poorly thought-out, over the top jobs upon discovering his divine strength -- this, of course, led to his being captured and imprisoned several times, still being relatively weak for an Exalt. Each time, however, Eden managed to escape, usually to return again. During the time period near the end of his string of imprisonments, he found himself time and again imprisoned along with a man named Seth. Given that they had assisted in the other's escape on multiple occasions, they resolved to stick together upon their return to Nexus. After a few years, their talents had grown exponentially, and they'd soon found others to join their cause. That time period was a devastating one for the guild, as Eden finally possessed the power he needed to begin his "redistribution" of the Guild's wealth.

No caravan was safe, no vault secure. Over roughly a 5 year time period, Guild accountants have estimated that Eden and his band of thieves were directly or indirectly responsible for a loss of nearly 20% of the Guild's wealth. Eden usually spared the personnel, though he had little qualm offing a slave driver, drug runner, or even a guard who gave the group too much trouble -- he wasn't, after all, about to endanger a brother of his own. Though Eden had a steady reputation for hedonism and excess, he gave away far more wealth than he kept (and, given the size of the group's stockpile, this alone should serve as a measure of exactly how astronomical the amount of capital lifted from the Guild and other oppressive governments was), and as a result of this odd variety of philanthropy, many of Nexus's worst streets were, relative to their former state, cleaned up tremendously. (Describing even the groups grander adventures would encompass far more than the scope of this page, so expect that to come at another time and place.)

Things changed for Eden's band of thieves when, on a routine run through Savage Land villages, they came face-to-face with the Wyld Hunt, rescuing a recently Exalted Solar, Esenius, from the clutches of Sesus Ahab Bracent and his Huntsmen. From this point forward, the group became directly involved in the Zerund Conflict, and Eden's story, from this point forward, was inextricably tied with theirs. It is worth mentioning here, however, that Eden met his end battling the insane Solar Daedric Cyrus, not only giving the group the time it needed to escape certain doom at the hands of Cyrus and his men, but also managing to lift and transport to Seth the Shardiron cube that would eventually be used drive the Mask of Winters from Thorns, and eventually be given to Kevik of the Mage Guild, paving the way for another circle of Solars to rise to the occasion the next time Creation found itself endangered.

Esenius was far more decorated for his part in the Zerund Conflict than Eden, though a statue of him stands proudly at the intersections of two of Nexus's largest underground tunnels, routes frequently traveled by those against, above, and outside the law. Sculpted by an unknown artist, it is adorned only with a single metal plate and an engraved phrase reading Eden's personal mantra:

"Never forget to pay yourself."

Personality

Eden painted the picture of the extravagance only an Exalt could manage. Carrying himself with an odd brand of dignified swagger, Eden's actions and thinking were rarely limited by conventional constraint. Famous for his ability to think outside the box, this trait was made literal in one of his most famous heists (also, see Defining Quote): During a quest to steal the crown jewels of the Kingdom of Halta, Eden and his crew finally made their to way to the vault housing the chest in which the jewels were stored. Finding out that it was protected by a magical seal they could not break (they had no Twilight caste on hand), Eden, without breaking stride, carried out a slight change of plan; he and his crew stole the entire vault, hauling it back to their stronghold in Rubylak, where they could crack it at their leisure. Eden is historically prone to whimsical and often ridiculous suggestions, but, each time, is miraculously able to carry them out. He seems to have a borderline-unstable level of jollity, and is able crack a joke even in the face of overwhelming odds, leading some to suggest that years of indulgence have left him slightly deranged. Despite this, Eden has shown himself time and again to have a strong heart, and his loyalty to his companions and consistent struggle against the true evils of Creation have shown his doubters that honor among thieves is more than just a cynical punchline.

Defining Quote

"The chest is locked? Fine; we'll steal the vault."
