Background
Yau was born to a a family of Chinese-American academics living in Los Angeles, California, USA in the year 2000. He obtained his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the Univerity of California Los Angeles in 2022. He moved to UC Berkeley for his post-graduate work. During this time he was among many scientists and academics pioneering a new field - mathematical thaumaturgy. He was fascinated by the emergence of magic and spent most of his time studying the mathematical basis for such power. Though his work is primarily mathematics, his insights have paved the way for new innovations in the fields of physics and thaumaturgy. He received a Nobel Prize in Physics in 2028 for the mathematical foundation linking astral space to the extradimensionality of superstring theory. It was the last Nobel Prize in Physics to be awarded by Sweden before the creation of the Scandinavian Union in 2029.
After the succession of California from the UCAS, scientific funding dried up. Yau was forced to find a corporate sponsor to continue his work. Mitsuhama Computer Technologies (MCT) hired Yau in 2038 to further explore the mathematics of thaumaturgy. Over the years, Yau was frustrated and unhappy with MCT's engineering applications of his work. More often than not, his work was used primarily in military and security settings. Yau began purposely withholding information from his superiors while continuing to conduct research and spending corporate money. After several years without any new (reported) breakthroughs, he was fired from MCT at the age of 67.
Seeking expertise in this field, the California Department of Homeland Security hired Yau as a consultant. Instead of retiring, Yau jumped at the opportunity to help combat the misuse of magical technology and help the people of California (and the world).
