The Forsaken Siren from Beyond the Vale of Tears was born and raised in a very small village in the East near Greyfalls, approximately 2 days ride north of Nasaru Redoubt along the Rock River. The village formed during the Shogunate Era as a group of survivors found shelter against an angry horde of Raksha seeking to wage war on Creation and steal the souls of its inhabitants. The survivors were saved from the horde by a lone swordsmen who valiantly fought against the enemy forces until reinforcements could arrive to drive the Raksha back to the Wyld. During his heroic fight he suffered a number of wounds, several that would have been grave on their own and though he was still fighting back the host of enemies when his reinforcements arrived there was nothing the best healers in Creation could do to save him. The lone swordsman's life slipped away, but his strength of will was too great to allow him to slip away into the cycle of lethe and he became a coveted war ghost in the Underworld. In Creation the survivors of the battle decided to remain along the Rock River and live on as an ancestor cult focused around the swordsman who saved them.

The village lived on, but never prospered, the population hovering around 100 inhabitants who mostly lived equally in poverty on the outskirts of civilization. The swordsman who had become a favored war ghost in The Underworld spent 1 out of every 10 calibrations living with his ancestor cult, who spent the week honoring him in person and celebrating his heroism. On one of his visits to the village he took to bed with one the local young women, though the women of the village often threw themselves at the ancestor they worshiped he rarely went to bed with any of them on his visits, making this a particularly special and rare case. Nine months later a ghost-blooded baby girl was born, the mother died during birth and the father, was not aware of her birth and would not be returning to the village for almost 10 more years.

A prophecy told long ago, by the wise woman who was an original founder of the village, foretold the coming of a ghost-blooded child that would signal great things for the village. The village believed that she was the child of that prophecy and raised her as a child of the village, each villager doing their part to ensure she had the best childhood the meager village had to offer. For her part, the child excelled at almost everything the village set at her feet and before long the village looked at a mere child as their savior. 10 years after her birth her father returned to the village during Calibration and was somewhat surprised to find a daughter, still a child but leader of this entire village. He was abnormally reclusive during his 5 day visit, though at the end of his stay before he departed he had a long and private conversation with his daughter. Neither ever spoke of what was said, but afterwards she embraced her role as leader of the village as the prophecy told a time of prosperity began for the village.

The village began to grow as the Solars returned to Creation, and while this was lost on the small village it set about the cogs that led to its destruction. The village's population grew rapidly over the years and several very strong harvests led to trading opportunities for the village. Word eventually spread that this new trading partner was in fact an ancestor cult, the problem remained too small and too distant for Greyfalls to take action though from then on they kept a close watch on the village and its young, blossoming leader. Years passed, all of them good for the village, yet Creation around them continued to crumble with the return of the Solars and the disappearance of the Empress. The invasion of Thorns was the last straw for the Imperial forces of Greyfalls, suddenly the cults connection to the Underworld drew the ire of the Wyld Hunt.

When they came they came in force and in numbers that the village had no possible way of defending they should have surrendered, however their history and pride prevented it. Those few who were able took up arms, though the girl who led them was the only one who had much skill with a blade. One teenage girl with a dull sword and farmers with pitchforks at her back were no fight for the practiced soldiers of Greyfalls and their exalted commanders. There was no battle, only a massacre of hundreds of men, women, and children. Their leader was beaten and defeated, impaled upon a spear but kept alive so she could watch the slaughter as the Wyld Huntsmen taunted her helplessness. Rather than give her mercy they left her to bleed out, stapled to the ground and suffering in agony.

Vale's personality is often confused as meek and tentative as her small physical appearance and generally peaceful and introspective demeanor have led many to have a false first impression of her. Vale rarely speaks unless she feels like words are needed, and though she possesses an obvious and undeniable charisma when leading she is often reluctant to do so, though The Final Sundering Lotus continues to encourage her to. Though others often look to her for leadership she still prefers to work alone in most instances, however this is not due to a timid nature or lack of self confidence. Vale has a great confidence in the truth of The Void and an overwhelming patience in knowing that the inevitable will come for them all. She is even keeled and confident in almost any circumstance and is unknown to panic even in times of certain failure, this lack of fear and infinite patience has been known to get her out of some sticky situations. However, it has also led her into some of them. Even more notably she has been known to allow others to make mistakes when she is capable of preventing them. She is quite loyal to those who manage to gain her difficult to earn trust, her cold demeanor prevents that number of individuals from growing beyond a small number, and the fire that burns inside her for those who cross her is as immortal as her exalted essence.

Background

As her final breath left her lungs The Final Sundering Lotus came to her, a voice on the edge of her mind offering something, anything other than the end. She did not make promises, only offered another path. One that would be longer, harder, and full of pain compared to the quick release of death, but at the end of that path would be the vengeance that she so badly desired.

Physical Appearance

Siren is an undeniably diminutive figure, standing only slightly over five feet tall and weighing maybe 100 pounds; her wiry frame is at its best sinewy and at its worst gaunt. Though she is hardly ashamed of her wiry figure she also understands the need to present herself as more formidable in most circumstances, as a result Siren is almost never without her soulsteel breast plate worn under her heavy robes, the armor making her appear far more fullbodied. In the rare occasions she goes without her armor, and often even with it, she wears multiple layers of heavy robes adding pounds of cloth to her frame and hiding some of her perceived fragility. Her lithe body moves with feline grace and elegance with smooth and precise motions, though she often falls into periods of statue like stillness if not actively engaged. Due to the above average length of her reaper daiklave and her own short stature, she wears the long elegant blade across her back rather than the traditional location of wearing the curved blade on her hip. Siren's skin is porcelain smooth and pale white in contrast to her stark black, straight hair and cool grey eyes. Though it is difficult to tell with the immortal abyssal exalted, Siren appears no older than 18 years of age.

Personality

Goals & Objectives

Intimacies
  • The ancestor cults of Creation have been punished by the ignorant for the entirety of their existence, their dedication to the Dead has earned them a favored place along the journey into The Void.
  • The chaotic force of The Wyld is polar opposite to the calming truth of The Void, I intend to bring the peaceful truth of The Void to all those who were spawned by The Wyld.

Vale holds a burning grudge against the Dragon-Blooded host and Immaculate Faith that dictated that her village be mercilessly slaughtered for committing no crime beyond simple existence and honoring their dead ancestor. Her particular vendetta is against the Dragon-Blooded Empire that currently rules from The Blessed Isle and the entirety of the Immaculate Faith that they honor; she holds a particularly strong grudge against the city of Greyfalls which dispatched the troops that massacred her village, and she bears no love for the other Dragon-Bloods of Creation even if her vengeance isn't directly aimed at them. When The Final Sundering Lotus offered Vale the immortality of abyssal exaltation and made her a agent of The Void, Vale accepted in order to extract her vengeance against the so called Princes of Creation and their hollow religion. What better way than to destroy the precious thing they have tried so hard to protect.
