Talk:The Gand: Background

Dakarus: Dakarus is the name of the Gand loan shark that Gand (Dan's character) owes money to. He is also, unbeknownst to anyone but Dakarus, Gand's uncle. After losing the family business, Dakarus disappeared from his home city. When the Imperials showed up, he helped them out by providing information about Gand society and culture. The empire paid Dakarus to do some other unscrupulous work as well. Now he uses his money and shop in the space station floating of Gand to lure naive and unsuspecting Gand into impossible loans. Then, when they are unable to pay, he uses Gand law to sell them into slavery to pay off the debt. His scam works by manipulating Gand culture. First, when he introduces himself with a name. Many Gand assume he has earned it and is an upstanding member of Gand society. He has not earned it. He just made it up. Second, Gand culture is extremely xenophobic. He prays on those fears to convince Gands to trust him, a Gand. He is aware that my character is his nephew and wants to sell him into slavery in order to hurt is sister. I think he would make a good long term nemesis for my character if you are looking for one.
