Background
Izumi's father is an unexalted member of House Sesus. He has a number of exalted family members, but few of note. He served in the legions, but is now too old for anything but desk work. Izumi's mother was a powerful patrician with a huge personal fortune and a lot of family members and contacts in the Thousand Scales. She was part of the many marriages Sesus has arranged in order to diversify their power base away from just the legions. She is still employed in the Thousand Scales where she works tirelessly for her Dynastic House, which she has developed a fierce loyalty for.
Izumi has 4 brothers, two older and two younger. Izumi's mother wanted a decent number of children in hopes of having as many exalted family members as possible. In typical mortal fashion, the children are only a few years apart, unlike the children of exalts. Izumi's youngest brother still has a chance, but the other three's time has come and gone.
Izumi was always treated as one of the boys in her family. She learned to fight and wrestle with her brothers not long after she started to crawl. Like most of the boys in House Sesus, the girls tend to go into the legions, so it was normal for her and the other girls of the House to be tomboys. Once in school, however, it became clear that she could more than keep up with her brothers when it came to her studies.
Izumi was fiercly competitive at school, especially against kids with DB parents. While Izumi's brothers shrugged off any insults at them about their parents being unexalted or, god forbid, that one of her parents is a patrician, Izumi would strive to prove herself fasster, smarter, better. Of course once some of the kids with high breeding began to exalt, it only got worse.
Izumi and Aden did not go to primary school together. They became friends from a young age because Aden attended many House Sesus events due to his mother keeping close contacts with her old House. Izumi, Aden, and her four brothers would play at fighting the anathema or create makeshift obstacle courses to race on. When the weather was bad, they would play Gateway and Izumi would beat them all. Aden was immediatly impressed at this girl that could keep up with all the boys in a fight and beat even the older kids at Gateway. Aden declared her his rival and attempted to beat her at every activity they did together. When Aden exalted, she figured it would ruin their friendship. Aden, though, never really brought it up, and he still couldnt beat her in Gateway, which is what he really wanted anyways.
Once Izumi gave up on exalting, she applied to the House of Bells as a mortal. She made it to the final round of interviews, but was turned down. It was less than a month later that she did exalt. When the House of Bells heard, they sent her an official letter welcoming her to their school. Izumi's pride was too great, however, and she wrote back that she had to decline their offer. Izumi decided that she would apply to the Heptagram since it was the hardest to get into. It was quite apperant to the interviewers that she was both intelligent and driven enough to succeed there. Izumi's exaltation and acceptence into the Heptagram thrilled her parents and House Sesus.
While Izumi has been studying at the Heptagram, all of her brothers except the youngest have joined the legions. Izumi's parents have poured all of the political capital and wealth into making sure she succeeds. Izumi has a sense of resentment, however, because she feels that she was no one special to them until she exalted. While she is still on good terms with them and is always kind to their face, she plans to move east into the Threshold with her fiance soon after graduation.
Izumi was an above average student at the Heptogram where she specialized in the military application of sorcery. While at the academy, an experiment gone wrong resulted in the creation of the elemental now named Breezy, which is tied to Izumi's essence. Izumi was lucky that the mishap did not result in her death and the death of other students as well. At first Izumi felt like her arranged marriage was her House selling her to some strange family out east. While her initial assumption is still technically true, she has come to accept it because she has come to like her betrothed, Tycho, and because she believes that out on the Threshold she will get a chance to truly prove herself.
Izumi agreed to Aden's request for a number of reasons. First, it is a chance for her to prove herself. Second, Aden was her favorite cousin and always treated her fairly, but they never got to spend much time together. Finally, she isnt quite ready to settle down yet and this trip gives her an oppertunity to learn about Tycho outside of the Heptogram.
Personality
Izumi is generally straight forward and honset with people. If a topic is likely to cause problems, and doesnt have to be discussed, she will likely avoid it altogether. If it must be discussed, she will bring it up right away. Izumi is driven to prove her ability to bother the world and herself. She enjoys physical activity and is generally in a good mood when not cramped up somewhere. Izumi does not have a lot of friends because she is usually working hard, but in social situation people tend to find her agreeable.
Izumi tends to gravitate towards people that treat her fairly and by her actions instead of her birth or place in society. She tries to judge others the same way, but is as susceptible to first impressions and manipulation as anyone else.
Izumi is not a fan of the Immaculate Faith, but does her best to judge it's followers on their actions and not their beliefs. She is agnostic towards the religion and generally views it as a way to explain the occult happenings to simple folks that lack the time and intelligence to study it properly.
Goals & Objectives
Izumi wants to prove to everyone that place of birth is not a major determinant in one's life. Izumi's belief is more than skirting with heresy, and she knows it. As a result, Izumi would rather show people this truth, rather than say it.
Izumi hopes that whatever Aden has planned, her participation will continue to prove that exalted of low breeding can accomplish as much as exalted of higher breeding.
Izumi wants to master sorcerery to prove that a Dragon Blood with low breeding can master the same powers the empress had.
