BACKGROUND
Jasper was born on Xyquine II in the Corellian Sector, known as the safest place in the sector. A phrase that the planets elders use more fondly than it's youth. His parents were both members of the upper-middle class and politically involved, his mother served one term as a member of parliament before resuming her career as a lawyer. Jasper is the middle child of three, with an older brother and younger sister. Like many young people on Xy-2 the Barakis children often experienced wanderlust throughout their formative years, and their parents were open minded enough to allow it. His older brother was the first to embark on his grand adventure, like many Xy-2 explorers he didn't make it past Corellia. However, he didn't just loose his nerve, The Empire's ruthless destruction of Alderaan made it very clear the dangers of being away from home were too great to risk. He returned home and enrolled at the local university, intending to follow after his mother's footsteps. Despite Jasper's brother ending his adventure early, Jasper was not dissuaded from starting his own once he graduated secondary school, though his parents were much more skeptical. Then the destruction of Froz happened, and everything changed.
With the planetary bombardment and subsequent mass extinction of another entire planet, this one within the Corellian Sector, the very foundations of Xy-2 peaceful civilization was shaken. Jasper's parents forbid Jasper to leave the planet once he graduated, enrolling him immediately in the university. Meanwhile, across the planet the people started to express doubt about the value of The Empire, which the planetary government was quick to condemn, at least publicly. Through back channels, Xy-2 was quietly moving to back The Rebel Alliance and arrange secret meetings.
Jasper did not react like his parents to the news of Froz's destruction, instead he saw his reasons for leaving as even more important than before. He was not just going to explore the world, he was going to do it as part of The Alliance to Restore the Republic. He just wasn't sure how yet. He started by withdrawing himself from the university, and running off with his first semester's tuition money.
He made it as far as the capital, New Coronet, and started to hang around the public spaceport doing odd jobs to earn some money and put himself into position around the ships. Xy-2's public port was mostly used for travel within the Corellian Sector and by visiting, tourists, his working plan was to stow away on a yacht or tourist transport to get off world. He was young, and it wasn't that good of a plan, but he did manage to get himself aboard a transport headed for a luxury cruise liner in low orbit. Or so he thought.
The transport passed by the cruise liner, and jumped into hyperspace unexpectedly, while in hyperspace he was discovered. His hiding place wasn't meant to last days, only the short journey into orbit. Instead of a transport full of tourists, Jasper discovered that he'd ended up on a transport for The Alliance heading back to base under disguise, after a covert meeting with the leaders of Xy-2. They quickly and easily detained him, and he did not put up a fight, instead begging that they allow him to come with them.
