Episode V: Storming the Garrison

From The Whereabouts

While still on Vondarc the Kraken's Kiss receives a message from a female Bothan who identifies herself as Mrs. Borsk, the wife of Professor Borsk, the archaeologist who the crew encountered on Bilrindar. Borsk returned to his University on Krant in the Bothan System, an independent system where he could continue his studies with the books and resources he collected on Bilrindar. However, Mrs. Borsk has contacted The Kraken's Kiss because her husband has been taken by the Imperial garrison in the university town on Krant, the crew is her last hope when the other mercenaries from Bilrindar refused to take a contract against The Empire. The Kraken's Kiss is more bold, or less wise, and agrees to accept Mrs. Borsk's moderate sum to attempt the rescue.

The ship makes the jump successfully and quietly enters the atmosphere where they fly low looking for a place to land outside of town, however the thick wilderness proves too dense until they are hailed by a group on the surface offering help. The natives of the planet who are rebelling against Imperial control on the planet remove a projection field which creates a suitable, well hidden landing place for he crew. The crew states their purpose on the planet and the rebels, who are already harboring Mrs. Borsk, agree to help the crew rescue Professor Borsk however they can. The crew gets transport into the city from the rebels, enter the gate unmolested, and find a hotel room to stay in to start their rescue mission. From there the crew splits up to search the town, Baric scouts the town on foot and locates the Imperial garrison at the center of town. Lightly guarded as Imperial garrisons go.

Meanwhile, Malloc goes to Borsk's university to look further into why Dr. Borsk was taken captive and to see if any of the leads would direct the Imperial investigation towards Malloc. He successfully slices his way into the building and attempts to contact one of Borsk's colleagues, Dorsk; however Dorsk doesn't seem so willing to cooperate. Worse yet, Malloc discovers that a Storm Trooper is stationed outside of Professor Borsk's office which is adjacent to Dr. Dorsk's. Malloc manages to enter Dorsk's office by disguising himself as a student and slips right past the Storm Trooper to give a secret message to Dorsk arranging a meeting the next night.

The next night Dorsk and Malloc meet at the towns motel, while Baric and Gand hideout nearby to monitor the situation. The conversation appears to go truthfully, but Dorsk doesn't shed much light on how to rescue Dr. Borsk. He does give the crew an idea as to why Borsk might have been captured, as he explains the Borsk has been studying the Jedi Order. Malloc is naturally relieved that the Imperials aren't onto him and is now more interested to make contact with Dr. Borsk who might have more information on the Jedi. Dorsk and the crew go their separate ways, and at Malloc's urging decide to stage a break in to Borsk's guarded office. They have no problem breaking into the building, but prove rather incapable of stealth when they alert the Storm Trooper guarding the door to their presence as they walk up the stairs. None the less the shootout is brief as the crew guns down the Storm Trooper. Afterwards Malloc and Gand search the professor's office while Baric watches the stairs; though Malloc finds nothing of interest, Gand discovers a well hidden operational lightsaber.

With no further leads or ideas on how to rescue Dr. Borsk they decide to dare a break in, finding a laser cutter on the towns black market they climb to the roof of an adjacent building and leap the gap onto the garrison's roof. Gand and Malloc hold the rope as Baric goes over the side, rappelling down the building and cutting a hole large enough to climb through a window, once inside Malloc start his climb but without two people holding the rope falls to the ground. While trying to catch Malloc, Baric smashes into the window and further alerts the garrison to their presence. Malloc falls unconscious and the crew engages the guards outside in a gunfight, though they quickly overpower the two guards they alert the entire garrison in doing so. Two more Storm Troopers come into the office where Baric is alone inside, he manages to get the jump on them and gun them down, but takes a shot from the Troopers blaster rifle at close range. With no further threats outside the garrison or on the second floor, Gand stimpacks Malloc and the crew reconvenes at the main entrance.

More blaster fire is exchanged between the crew and two squads of fortified Storm Troopers, while the crew again manages to defeat the heavily armed Troops they take heavy damage along the way. Exhausting their resources and supplies the crew is seriously wounded trying to clear the 1st floor of the garrison, they do not find their target and instead discover a basement to search. The crew descends into the basement and is caught between two heavily fortified groups, deciding to rush one to get more cover Malloc is gunned down before their plan can succeed. Baric too falls, but Gand finishes off one group to allow themselves cover. After another stimpack Baric rejoins the fight and the two team up to take out the officer at close range while keeping the Sergeant Trooper at bay. Turning their focus onto one target, Malloc is brought back into the fray and on their last chance they overpower the Sergeant. With a recovered keycard they free Dr. Borsk and make a quick escape, unable to further investigate due to fear that Imperial reinforcements would be on their way. They meet up with the small rebel group outside of the city and return to the ship, reuniting Dr. Borsk and Mrs. Borsk.

The crew is paid 17,250 credits for completing the mission - 775 credits spent on hotel and laser cutter during the mission, leaving the crew with 5,491 credits each.
