The Situation

Hector is awaiting status updates aboard The Seacop after having completed his tasks of planting explosives on the 3 terrorist vessels, he is available to provide backup to other groups as needed.

Group A (Oni, Eric, Doc) have secured the boats, sinking and destroying 2 of the ships while taking control of the third ship. All enemies have been dispatched, though 3 wounded terrorists are swimming lose in the ocean nearby. Furthermore, due to their quick work they were mostly undisturbed while taking control of the vessels, but their disturbance has certainly caught the attention of the terrorists on the platform above.

Ana is inside the laboratory just outside the Power Generation & Transfer Area of the station within Sublevel 1, she has killed the guard inside and peeked through the window into the large room. She has identified two guards patrolling the cat-walks on this floor, but saw no other guards or the device they are searching for. (She has not gotten past the maglock on this door yet.)

Wex is hidden within the levels of the control tower after exploring it in an attempt to get more information on the station as well as to slip away from possible pursuit from guards on the surface level. He currently has the best view of the surface level of the platform, but is in little position to take much action without relocating.

<Oni> "Mission Accomplished."
<Oni> "Do you require assistance?"
<Wex> "..."
<Ana> "..."

Notes

  • Group A is in possession of one terrorist ship, equipped with a tripod mounted Ingram White Knight Light Machine Gun and rigged with plastic explosives with and effective rating of 16. Eric is in possession of the detonator for this device. The ship has taken no damage. Three dead terrorists are onboard.
  • Wex has identified at least one sniper stationed ontop of the control tower and has confirmed Dr. Yau's suspicions that the device would not be in the upper levels of the control tower.
  • Ana has cleared Sublevel 1 west of the elevators and has a brief look into the upper level of the Power Generation & Transfer Area of the station.
  • Hector is currently aboard the Seacop, awaiting signal from either group to move in with the teams ship. He is out of range of their signal, and cannot take part in two-way communication, but is capable of sending messages to members of the group. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think he'd moved closer to the platform.)
  • Eric's detect magic spell has revealed there is a mage using detect enemy and using a sustaining foci somewhere in the two sublevels of the platform, likely in the northwest area.

Session Synopsis

Ana replied that she had begun exploring the sublevels of the platform when she came across a large room that she believes would contain the artifact, however the room is heavily guarded and Ana was in no condition for a prolonged gunfight. She took up a hiding place in a nearby office while Group A (Assault) attempted to board the platform. Using a left over grapple gun they salvaged from their taken over terrorist boat Group A climbed aboard the platform, however F.A.T.E.'s second boarding was no more stealthy than their first. A fire fight broke out across the surface level of the platform between Group A & Wex against approximately 15 terrorists. Several hundred bullets later Group A had cleared the surface level and was moving into sublevel 1 while Wex stayed in a sniper position atop the control tower.

Meanwhile Ana's hiding position had been discovered by one of the terrorists who eventually was dispatched to stop her from roaming about the platform, with a string of bad luck Ana didn't even get a shot off before the terrorist gunned her down. Luckily Group A was storming in her direction already, led by a charging Oni (who made quick work of passing guards) they reached Ana and stabilized her before her dying health levels ran out. Group A, joined by an injured Ana, regrouped before storming into the Power Generation Room to take control of the device.

Hyped up on Kamikaze, Ana burst through the doorway first and stormed the room, declaring the coast was clear. The rest of the group proceeded with more caution and engaged the 7 terrorists, including a mage, that remained guarding and operating the artifact. Ana was again gunned down, and other members of the group took significant damage before Oni and Eric's powerful fire spirit were able to clear the room with some expert shooting. After that Doc applied first aid to members of the group before disengaging the artifact from the platform successfully, using a fork lift the group was able to transport the artifact out of the sublevels, through the freight elevator, and onto their boat using the tower crane.

While Group A attended to the artifact, and Hector directed the loading onto their coast guard vessel for escape, Wex restored essential functions to the platforms security from the control tower. Using the security cameras he was able to locate the 300 hostages and their 2 remaining terrorist guards. Wex suggested they surrender and they could escape with their lives, however the terrorists instead tried to use the hostages to demand an escape vehicle. F.A.T.E. was happy to comply and allowed the two terrorists to board and begin escaping aboard the final terrorist boat before blowing the plastic explosives Hector had secured to the ship at the beginning of the mission. F.A.T.E. departed for Santa Maria with the artifact safely on board, leaving the platform with no surviving terrorists and the 300 hostages safely locked in their living quarters.

Aftermath

The morning after the assault a majority of F.A.T.E.'s field operatives were still recovering from combat aboard Tidalfields Station; Ana, Oni, Doc, Eric, and Wex were all laying out on beds in Headquarter's Medical Facility in various stages of physical health. Ana was hooked up to several machines to assist her recovery and was passing in and out of consciousness, Oni was hooked up to a similar number of machines though he spent his time in a Zen meditation. Eric and Wex were significantly less injured and occupied themselves separately, Eric scrolling through something on his image link while Wex watched a classic film broadcasting on a hallow projector at the foot of his bed. Doc alternated between tending to his patients and trying to get himself enough rest to heal, he was occupied looking over Ana's medications when J.P and Dr. Yau entered the facility.

J.P. started off after looking around the facility briefly, "Dr. Yau believes he as some insight into the recovered artifacts' design."

Dr. Yau picked up from there, "Obviously I have no way of powering the recovered device, the power it requires would immediately crash even our considerable power grid. So I began with taking the device apart, once I got past the considerable power structure I discovered some sort of pressurized chamber."

D. Yau used a image projector, similar to the one Wex had been watching a film on, to project an image of the device into the room and began manipulating it with a set of hand gestures and a pair of AR Gloves. He quickly showed the outer layers of the device being stripped away revealing the second layer underneath, under the outer power conversion layer the device seemed more coherent and the spherical chamber Dr. Yau described was obvious.

"At his point I hit a bit of a snag, the electrical engineering that went into the device is extremely complicated but not unprecedented, after that the device is less scientific and more along the lines of alchemy." He paused a minute to hold up four test tubes containing trace amounts of something along with a solvent. "Radical copper, gold, mercury, and silver were all found inside in some sort of isolated injection device. I did a little research, the necessary components to create Orichalcum. You indicated a mage seemed to be tending the device while it was powered up, he must have been an Alchemist looking to create the rare material. Of course he must have known he'd never get 28 days to properly circulate the materials. And of course I'm still looking into how this device factors into the equation."

J.P. spoke up once Dr. Yau was done, "We've obviously got some additional research to perform. Eric and Wex, any insight you might be able to shed on this as Hermetic mages might be of assistance to Dr. Yau. But we need to consider who is funding this terrorist group, they didn't develop the electrical engineering prowess to make this device on their own. Initial thoughts would be the device was a secret R&D project the group stole, or more disturbing was given to them to test. We'll keep our eye and ears on the matter going forward."
