Thanksgiving

I know, posting has been slow from me lately. I'm in a pretty big crunch here at NU, but things will slow down tremendously for me in the next two weeks, since I'll have joined a research group by then and finished midterms.

Anyway, aside from that, I'm gonna be in Columbus Friday Nov. 26 and Saturday Nov. 27 - is anyone gonna be around those days? I know that's Thanksgiving weekend, obviously, but I figured it was worth a shot.

Dan 02:42, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

Not sure yet what is up for that weekend, might be going up to Cleveland for Thanksgiving but could be back for Friday/Saturday. Will keep you posted. --FyreFly 20:31, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

Same here. More likely back Saturday than Friday. Kirkland 23:05, 19 October 2010 (EDT)

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gaming

World of Darkness MMO confirmed. Also, they've confirmed it centers around OWoD V:tM, which sits well with me.

Yo

It's not very often that a quote really resonates with me, but today I found this one that I have to share: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Phil_Plait_the_Universe_is_Cool.jpg

This is very awesome. --FyreFly 21:55, 26 August 2010 (EDT)

My building has the stupidest Internet setup I've ever encountered. It has only building-wide wireless & cable, and so I'm waiting for my Mac addresses to be added to their allowed device list. It also says they don't allow online gaming on the connection, which is bizarre - I hope it isn't enforced. Anyway, probably no posts from me until the Internet works ( on my phone now).

Also, I have the shittiest car in Evanston. Seriously. I have 't seen a worse one anywhere yet.

Dan 18:36, 27 August 2010 (EDT)

That doesn't sound fair. Just say it's not gaming, it's a way of life. Can you at least look at pr0n? Kirkland 23:10, 30 August 2010 (EDT)

RP

In-Person

  • Exalted: Grass Spiders on You - (For the rest of the summer and on return trips by Dan)
  • Something in person for those of us staying in Columbus long term? I thought it would be a decent idea to decide early in the summer and have the summer to build up content and what not like we've done for Grass Spiders. I had a couple of ideas, nothing too developed and thought I'd throw them out there.
    • Exalted (ST: Tony, Brian, DanK)
      • West: Solar or mixed game. (Probably no abyssals, infernals, or sidereals as PCs)
      • Realm: All Dragon-Blooded game in the Realm somewhere. Probably would be based on the Isle, but we could do a major satrap as well.
      • Abyssal: Probably all serve the same deathlord, I'd probably be for creating our own but maybe one of the existing.
      • Scav. Lands: Thought it would be interesting if we ran a game with PCs in The Terrestrial Lions. Players would probably be DBs, God-Bloods, or Half-Castes.
    • Shadowrun - I'm certainly happy to play, would be willing to split up ST duties if we want to play Shadowrun.
    • OWoD - I'm certainly happy to play, would be willing to split up ST duties if we want to play OWoD. (Probably Vampire though open to anything.)
    • New Games (ST: Tony, Brian, DanK)
      • NWoD: I know DanK ran a short game last summer, still calling it a new game though.
      • Star Wars: We could run a game with our new SW system. I'd probably vote for Brian to ST, though I'd be willing to help with any system issues we might have or need worked out pre-session.
      • Lot5R: I think we played it once or twice. Would be willing to learn and give it a try.
      • Anima: I know the system sounds crazy, but I'd try to learn it if we wanted to play.
      • DnD: It's classic, nothing wrong with that. (Well maybe a few things... )
      • Scion: Dont know much about it besides that it is a White Wolf game and I've heard it is sorta like modern exalted.

My first choices are wither Anima (prob me ST) or L5R. I feel like doing something in a new setting. My next choices would be Shadowrun (willing to split ST duty), OWOD (prob Vamp), NWOD (prob Mage, willing to ST I guess), Star Wars. That list was in no particular order. Then maybe DnD or Scion. It would be nice to take a break from Exalted, but if we go with it, I would like to try something different like Abyssal or Sidereal. Other thoughts?

I'm with Dan on this one, I think I would vote to change things up a little bit. Especially since we are planning to continue with Grass Spiders and North online. I think we should give something a bit more new a try. Right now I'd probably vote for Shadowrun, Star Wars, Scion, L5R, or Anima. I'm debating how much I want to change to something more modern, right now I am open to anything. Obviously I'm more familiar with Shadowrun and Star Wars than the other games, but I'm happy to to learn a new game to play. (I'm probably willing to share ST duties for any of the games.) --FyreFly 16:12, 18 July 2010 (EDT)

I'm gonna restart this conversation. The RPGs on my list are Shadowrun, OWOD, NWOD, and Scion. I've been watching Fringe again, which really makes me want to play a sci-fi style game. Looks like our lists all share Shadowrun and Scion. If Tony is willing to re-consider OWOD or NWOD those could be candidates as well. We have SW and plenty of Exalted going online so I would prefer something fresh. Kirkland 21:04, 28 September 2010 (EDT)

Dan K and I were actually just talking about this after soccer. I'm all for whatever, I'd most like to play regardless of the game. OWoD or NWoD are both fine with me, assuming we're good on Star Wars with online, I think Shadowrun would be my first vote with Scion, OWoD, and NWod all on equal second choices. Dan and I were talking about getting together the weekend after next (9th or 10th), and if not playing something then talking about some ideas and making characters or something along those lines. --FyreFly 21:56, 28 September 2010 (EDT)

Online

I (Dan) am moving to Evanston, IL on August 26th, so my in-session days are numbered. That just means more time to post online >=D. These are my thoughts for what's coming up.

Grass-Spiders

The focus of Grass-Spiders is character development. Although the missions are important, seeing the characters change and interact is my favorite part of this storyline. I've always thought that the coolest thing about Dragon-Bloods is that they are much more human in scope than Celestial Exalts. They have long, but not unfathomable lifespans. Their Exaltations are not necessarily a result of their excellence (although they still tend to excel), but a genetic phenomenon. They are mere men given inconceivable power. Ultimately, the Grass-Spiders is the story of how people handle this situation. Right now, our characters are pretty much people with jobs. They get up and work. Granted, their jobs are incredibly lucrative and impossibly thrilling, but such is the nature of Exalted. But where will they be in 10 years? 50 Years? 200 years?

My approach to this storyline is have it played out over the lifetimes of the characters. Chapter 1 is indeed the early years, but Chapter 2 may, and likely will be 5 to 10 years later. Chapter 3 may be 20 years after that. As I said above, this is a character piece, and this is the story of the lives of these characters - they will become more influential in the organization. Maybe someday they'll run it. Maybe they'll have families. Maybe they'll leave the Order. Maybe they'll come back. Time will tell.

My plan is to finish out Chapter 1 this summer, before I go to Evanston. This will include a solid introduction to the metaplot, which will persist at least through Chapter 2 (the White Veil Society works very subtly - most of the time - so 5 to 10 years is a perfectly reasonable timeline for their plans). That will proceed as it has been, and it will just last for as many sessions as we can play. Once I get to Evanston, the playing style will be as follows:

  1. Dan posts a "Chapter X Background" first, describing major changes in the Order and Creation that have transpired.
  2. In the same thread, players reply with what their characters have been up to.
  3. Once we are ready to play a mission, the storyteller creates a mission info page, just as it happens now. On the discussion tab, a plan is discussed.
  4. Once a plan is agreed upon, the storyteller creates a new page called "Mission Y: Play" or something like that, and the storyteller opens the thread with a description of the starting scene for characters.
  5. Players and storyteller do a play-by-post execution of the mission.

We're going to handle experience per the book's guideline's of 10 per year for Exalts under 100 years old, but keep in mind that experience rules for moments, stories, etc. still apply.

North

For the duration of the summer, North is on a "when-I-feel-like-it" basis. My main focuses are keeping Grass-Spiders and Star Wars moving. That said, I still expect to do significant in work in describing Covenant's progress over RY 768. When I hit Evanston, we'll begin a play-by-post game set in RY 769, beginning on Covenant's independence day.

In General

I'm open and fully support chat-based play too, or even, if we're feeling particularly ambitious, video-chat, session style play. Regarding PBP play, I think there's going to be an effort to keep posts shorter so that storylines may advance, but (ideally) to compensate by posting the more descriptive stuff that makes characters so enticing in the form of stories, moments, preludes, and whatnot. All of this subject to player preference of course, but these are my thoughts on what will be happening this fall. I know it's ambitious, but this leaves us with three online games:

  1. Grass-Spiders
  2. North
  3. Star Wars
