Special Features & Charms

The special and unique features of Retzor's metropolis, some of which are municipal charms. These systems are often looked over by Retzor himself, though most are also run by some sort of AI system to manage the mundane tasks.

Clean & Running Water

Like many metropoli in Autochthonia, Retzor's inhabitants are blessed with clean running water throughout almost the entire city. Great vats on the underbelly of the city condensate water in the shadow cast by its massive form, the water is turned to steam and transported throughout the city. Stations in each district turn the steam back to water where it is then pumped to individual buildings as clean, luke-warm water. Many living quarters do not have personal running water, rather share a fountain with their floor or possibly even one fountain for an entire building in lower income districts. Much of the lower and middle class populace live in these apartment style facilities and despite sharing a water source almost no citizens of Retzor are left thirsty.

The Bubble

What is referred to by the people of Retzor as The Bubble is actually not a bubble at all, rather a lattice structured dome of adamant wire infused with Retzor's own essence. This semi-permeable dome covers almost half of the city which includes the majority of Retzor's residential districts as well as the central government structures, including The Vats where Alchemicals can be re-configured. The purpose of The Bubble is two-fold, it provides a controlled environment for it's inhabitants as well as some added protection from any outside assault.

The air surrounding the metropolis of Retzor is clean enough to support life, but hardly clean enough to do so comfortably. The air is not immediately toxic to most adults, however it has been known to cause ill effects over time and especially those with weaker immune systems are cautioned against extended inhalation. This is not the fault of Retzor itself, but rather the location of the distant metropolis which is near enough the to the Far Reaches to feel some of it's ill effects. Under The Bubble the air is constantly filtered, drawing fresh air from underneath the metropolis through a filtration system and into the districts under The Bubble. The air pumped into this area is always clean as well as moderately warm which prevents these areas from ever growing more than a bit chilled, the semi-permeable feature of the dome allows stale air to exit while keeping in the clean.

This dome provides a measure of protection if an outside assault were to take place, at least the citizens of the metropolis assume this to be true. They do know that the glass like structure of the dome as never been penetrated or cracked by force, though no one has ever tested the durability of this either.

Though the location of The Bubble has not changed in the relatively short existence of the metropolis, it is a personal goal of Retzor himself to extend this dome and protection over the entire city. How exactly this could be expanded is anyone's guess, if Retzor knows he hasn't explained it.

  • Indoor Air Filters: Most buildings outside of The Bubble filter their own air so that those within have clean air to breathe when inside, though when outside these buildings there is only the natural air of the area. Most citizens of Retzor don't worry about this limited exposure to the contaminated air, though visitors and particularly young or old residents are commonly seen wearing purifying breath masks in these districts.

People Movers

Retzor was renowned for always being in motion and being a master of travel during his time as a mobile exalt, even in becoming a stationary city he is a master of travel and transportation.

  • Conveyors: The conveyors of Retzor allow ground traffic through the narrow streets to be sped up significantly along the main travel routes. The conveyors form an outer-belt around the city and intersect the city in each direction once, creating a highway like system for foot traffic. The conveyors run just above the main street system, like a monorail in a modern city, and greatly expedite foot traffic when used. When taking a standard move action (walking) on the conveyors a character moves at a speed equal to their dashing speed per tick, when taking a dash action a character doubles his dashing movement speed. Most citizens use the conveyors to move about the city, while wealthy citizens and government officials often prefer flight.
  • Elevators: The elevators allow the people to move from the elevated height of the city to the natural ground of Autochthonia should they wish to. Each leg that connects the city to the ground, supporting the massive city in the air contains a people moving elevator. These elevators differ in size as do the size of the supporting legs, but each can move anywhere from 10 to 50 people in a single trip. (Typically a trip in one direction takes approximately 1 minute.) At the center of the industrial district a massive pillar supports much of the weight of the city, within the core of this pillar is a massive freight elevator. The freight elevator is typically not used to move people, though there is no reason why it couldn't, if used in this manner it would likely be able to transport an entire army.
