Arellious Kalar: Character Sheet
Background
As the oldest child of a prestigious minor gens in the city of Lookshy, high hopes rode on his shoulders as he entered school, though his parents already had other children. However, things did not go according to plan for the Kalar family, as their second child, not Arellious was first to exalt. In fact their third child's exaltation overshadowed the rather disappointing graduation of the eldest Kalar child, Arellious. A slight disappointment to the increasingly prosperous family Arellious joined the seventh legion army, here he excelled through hard work and was elevated quickly into Lookshy's shock troop force.
It was not long after joining this elite fighting force that during a bloody battle with barbarians in the southern scavenger lands, in the midst of battle he exalted. Once the mission was complete he returned to Lookshy where he was once again beloved by his family. He continued to serve in the elite fighting forces of Lookshy for several years before he was elevated to the most dangerous task force in the Threshold. At the age of 26 he was one of, if not the youngest Dragon-Blooded to join The Lookshy Rangers.
He served with the rangers for about a year when his youngest brother reached exaltation age, through he did no exalt, or so it seemed. Still young the family was willing to be patient, besides they already had 3 gifted children, but Arellious noticed something had changed about the boy. When he asked his brother he found something he did not expect, Arellious' younger brother was a solar. The boy was afraid to let anyone know, thought he should run away, but Arellious convinced him otherwise. He said he should stay, tell their parents and they would embrace him as the most talented of their children.
Arellious was an idealist, and the only member of his family present at the public hanging of his youngest brother. He was hung and buried as a common criminal, convicted of the unforgivable crime of treason. Not long after his brothers death Arellious left Lookshy, riddled with grief and guilt he formally resigned from his post and returned all requisitioned gear. He did not tell anyone where he would go, only that he had to go, few who knew him were surprised. Most figured he'd be back in a few months, a year at most... 2 years have passed and Arellious has no intention of returning to Lookshy, ever.
Personality
Arellious is often perceived as a stoic warrior, as it serves the image he wants to project; while he is no longer the depressed, grief ridden man he once was, the thoughts of a lost brother still linger at the back of his mind. When not playing the "Warrior of Justice" role, Arellious is rather personable, not a natural leader but a good hearted and compassionate man. He is not quick to judge, choosing rather to let peoples actions, not reputations or stature, determine his feelings towards them. As a young man Arellious was rather idealistic and viewed the world in a very black and white way, that view seems long gone however as he has come to realize the world is full of various shades of grey. While he primarily serves as a warrior he does not relish unnecessary violence and prefers not to fight, or kill unless he must.
Motivation & Intimacies
|
Arellious currently resides in a small town called Zelanor, approximately 120 miles west of Great Forks along the Yellow River. This town is one of many that is governed my no formal organization, and therefore receives very little protection from the armies of The River Province. Arellious came across this town under attack by barbarians, he was able to drive back the barbarian horde and decided to stop his wandering at least long enough to help the town rebuild. He discovered a powerful manse within the city, a relic from the first age that the villagers had been unable to utilize. He took up this massive windmill to be his home, he became beloved by the people as a hero though he does no spend all of his time idol there. The powers of the manse allow him to monitor the surrounding area, he has taken it upon himself to protect this area from harm and bring justice to the region.
Though Arellious feels a special attachment to the people of this village he considers his overall goal to restore his honor, lost by the death of his brother. He feels by delivering justice to a region void of it he may regain the favor of the gods and his honor along with it.
Virtue Flaw
Valor - Foolhardy Contempt:Arellious knows no fear. He places himself in the forefront of battle, thoughtlessly challenges enemies to single combat, volunteers for all dangerous missions and won't retreat under any circumstances.
Defining Quote
"The dead cannot cry out for justice, it is a duty of the living to do so for them."
Relationships
Aktuelle
"Aktuelle is a good man and a good priest, but he could be great. I can't help but think all the drinking and drugs are just there to hide something, but maybe not and the damn imperials are right. I like to think not, one way or another he is a force of good in this world, and that is something we could use a lot more of."
Lazarus
"Lazarus' best friend is and always will be his sword. Believe it or not I don't mean that in a bad way; Lazarus is a true warrior with a true warrior spirit, I can respect that. If you can't you better learn to, because at the end of the day if you're going to draw a line in the sand you better hope he's standing on your side of the line."
Steel Heart's Fury
"I've met a fair share of barbarians in my time but none of them were quite like Fury. He hates society in a way that he still holds compassion for it's people. He may not like what they do or what they build, but he knows there is more than that and he wants to save them from the delusions of a prejudice society. I think any outcaste can sympathize with that."
Ledaal Sarefine
"She had the sense and the guts to leave the Realm, that earns more than a few bonus points in my book. I don't think she's quite figured out why she did it all yet, but I'm confident that she will. Sarefine is the type of person who needs a banner to march behind, she hasn't found the right one yet and I feel like she's waiting for something. If she doesn't find it soon I can't help but think it will find her."
