Stories

Background

Georgio Paleiotheodorus is the son of a Vyron and Aleka Paleiotheodorus, a wealthy Greek couple that emigrated from Athens, Greece in 1965. The family settled in lower Manhattan and a few months after, Georgio was born. Vyron was a prominent Greek banker who fled to the United States ahead of the political unrest in Greece a few years later. Vyron became a trader at Bank of New York on Wall Street, eventually working his way to the top of executive ladder in their investment services division.

Georgio was pampered in every way, surrounded by the money and lavish luxuries of his parents. He developed a ruthless personality, and just like his father would always get what he wanted by any means. He followed in his father's footsteps, taking an internship and eventual job at Bank of New York.

Georgio is a man of many women and married one of his favorite companions in 1990. They had one child, Xander Paleiothedorus, who is now 17 years old. The couple split in 1994 in a bitter divorce. He has not seen or spoken to his son, or his ex-wife, since.

In 2007, Georgio was an integral player in the merging of Bank of New York with Mellon Financial Corporation, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and he moved to Pittsburgh after the merger.

Georgio and his father over the years have skimmed a large amount of wealth from their clients, running what amounts to a giant Ponzi scheme. Vyron primarily ran the scheme, but Georgio benefited greatly from it and could certainly be considered an accomplice. In 2008, during the financial crisis in the United States, the scheme collapsed. Vyron committed suicide at the age of 87, before he could even be arrested. During the years after the crisis, Georgio has managed to deflect much of the blame for the bank's heavy losses and has spent much time hiding his involvement in the scheme. Investigations are still ongoing.
