Background

Empyrean was the eldest son of an everyday family in West Gem. His father was a self-proclaimed entrepreneur; his endeavours in the blacksmithing and firewand construction businesses lasted only a few years before they ultimately collapsed. From adolescence, Empyrean was exceptionally brilliant compared to his peers. He spent much of his time growing up at the library, absorbing written material and learning new languages. He always had the ambition to follow in his father's footsteps, and perhaps one day start a business that would succeed.

He pursued these dreams in his teenage years, joining a small merchant guild at first to raise enough money to start his own. He created a joint venture with his oldest brother, a trade business that grew quickly. The deliveries and caravans he managed took him to nearly every corner of the south: from Gem to The Lap, Harborhead, An-Teng, the Varang City States, Chiaroscuro, and even Paragon, Gem's trading rival. His business built a good reputation on the fact that they had never lost a shipment. Empyrean's navigation skills were uncanny.
