Road Trip

Hey guys. I haven't forgotten about Grass-Spiders. I was agreeing to way too many projects at Northwestern and it kind of came to a head the past couple of weeks after a few disasters. After admitting to myself that I was way in over my head and focusing on the wrong things, I sucked it up and cut some shit out of my science life. I will finish writing the Mesa/Opal moment, but I recalled some conversations I had with Tony and my own thoughts, and in light of those, I propose the following: Sometime in the next 2 months or so, we take a weekend, meet up, and play the mission. I think it would be fun to get in the habit of meeting up a few times a year outside of the holidays to RP or do something awesome (like if Nobuo Uematsu ever comes back to Chicago). I think the most logical starting point is Indianapolis - it's about a half-way point for us, I think, and it has enough shit that we could make our non-RP hours interesting, too. I'm really excited about this possibility, so I'll start things off with a rough suggestion, and if you guys are interested, we can iron out the details:

  • We split a hotel room or two in Indianapolis for the nights of Apr. 26 and 27
  • Get into Indianapolis late Friday, order some pizza and RP as long as we can stay awake
  • Wake up Apr. 27, do something cool or fun in the city, then go out to dinner somewhere cool, then RP the night away
  • Head home Sunday.

I know splitting a hotel room makes it a more expensive RPing session than we're used to. An alternate plan would just be alternating visits to one another, and you guys could crash at my place in Chicago (I have a futon that turns into a bed, a couch, and full out extra bed, so I could accommodate three people without awkward sleeping arrangements), and I could either crash with one of you guys or my parents in Columbus. I'm happy to come to Columbus for the first round (i.e. sometime in the next two months). Obviously these dates are flexible, I just picked that one as an arbitrary starting point (although it would work for me if it works for everyone else).

What say you, gentlemen?

Dan 15:43, 22 March 2013 (EDT)

As we discussed online Dan I would be totally in. I think we were looking at May 3 - 5 as a possibility. Does that work for Dan K and Brian? We could also do a slightly shorter trip if people had obligations Friday night, and meet up on Saturday afternoon in Indy and come back on Sunday. --FyreFly 18:29, 26 March 2013 (EDT)

Sounds good to me. I have to check that weekend though. -DK

Sunday May 5 is OSU commencement which I will be attending and have family in town for... so that weekend is probably not great. Maybe May 11-12? Kirkland 11:17, 8 April 2013 (EDT)

That weekend is cool with me. Any of them are. I want to do this. Dan 10:33, 9 April 2013 (EDT)

I believe that weekend works for me too. And I second Dan's, lets do this shit. --FyreFly 19:21, 9 April 2013 (EDT)

I think right now we are looking at the weekends of May 10 - 12, which is Mother's Day so I know I at least would need to get back fairly early on Sunday. I'm cool with this weekend, but if we do this weekend we should definitely stay both Friday and Saturday nights since Saturday will probably need to be cut short. The second weekend is May 24 - 26, I'm wide open all weekend. --FyreFly 18:40, 14 April 2013 (EDT)

I'm actually camping May 24-26, so I say we plan for May 10-12 with an earlier night Saturday and early departure Sunday. What do you guys think? Dan 11:54, 15 April 2013 (EDT)

Yo homies, I don't mean to be pushy, but I gotta buy a train ticket before too long if we're doing this thing (they sell out). And we should do this thing. What's the word? Dan 10:34, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

You know I'm in. --FyreFly 17:53, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

Let me get back to you this weekend. Parents will be in town and I can find out if I have any family obligations Kirkland 17:58, 29 April 2013 (EDT)

Commission

Let's post potential commission artists here. Let's plan to have an artist picked by roughly the end of the month or within the next two weeks or so - I can handle contacting the guy and everything; once that's done I can interface with everyone to get together everyone's description of their characters.

This is probably my favorite of the ones that I have found. (This is the one I found around Christmas and posted below.) I haven't spent a ton of time looking but this person definitely has an exalted style and we could vary the price quite a bit. Sketches look pretty cheap while other fully colored and background work is a bit more expensive. --FyreFly 16:47, 23 January 2013 (EST)

Just saw that the beta testing ended last week. Some hope of a December or early 2013 release date! No details I could immediately find though. --FyreFly 13:39, 18 November 2012 (EST)

Nice! Maybe we could start an online game! (Or maybe that's a pipe dream...) Also, how terrible is it that I looked for a 'Like' button on that post?

Dan 16:52, 18 November 2012 (EST)

An online game would be solid, but it might be a pipe dream... And yes it is absolutely terrible that you looked for a 'Like' button on that post. (I'll just go on pretending I've never done that before...) --FyreFly 22:20, 19 November 2012 (EST)

Looks like a playable product has been released. Even if it is a beginners boxed set. A quick look at the forums tells me a true core book is expected in the spring.

And purchased. Kirkland 09:14, 3 January 2013 (EST)

Edge of the Empire has arrived, haven't opened it yet.
On the topic of RP this weekend, I guess I'm going to the Columbus beer fest thing on Saturday night but what about Friday or Sunday? Kirkland 09:41, 9 January 2013 (EST)

A slight delay... - http://fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=4053 First week of July it sounds like. --FyreFly 21:55, 11 April 2013 (EDT)

Grass Spiders on You

We're back.

Well done sir. Looking forward to it and hope to find time to post some stuff of my own this week. --FyreFly 19:05, 25 November 2012 (EST)

I was refamiliarizing myself with The Grass Spiders and had the thought that it's too bad we done have a commissioned picture of The Circle with No Name. Would anyone be interested in splitting the cost of a commission? Assuming we can find a good artist for a reasonable price. (Group Christmas Present?) --FyreFly 23:06, 26 November 2012 (EST)

A thousand times yes. Dan 23:25, 26 November 2012 (EST)

I'm in! Kirkland 09:55, 27 November 2012 (EST)

Gah, I meant to post today, but Bears losses tend to lead to excessive drinking in my social circle... >_<. So, today was sort of wasted (hah! Double meaning!) Tomorrow. Tomorrow. Dan 23:57, 2 December 2012 (EST)

I posted a really good Map of Nexus, but it's kind of huge. So my bad on that, probably should have resized before uploading... Anyway it's in the Exalted Resources Page. --FyreFly 18:53, 7 December 2012 (EST)

Database Backup

I backed up Seventh Legion today. Download it just so we have copies on as many hard drives as possible.

Can you guys believe all the content we've generated over the years? Just hit random page over and over again and marvel. It's awesome.

Dan 16:57, 14 April 2012 (EDT)

It really is amazing and I'm pretty glad it's lasted as long as it has and generated so much content. I would say the sitting here and clicking random page has gone from something I enjoy to being a full fledged hobby of mine. Also, this is a little late but did you guys realize that March 25th, 2012 was the 5th anniversary of this site being live?

Some pretty awesome stats to remind you how sweet this site is and how often we use it:

  • 575,000 Total Page Views
    • 115,000 per year
    • 9,500 per month
    • 2,200 per week
    • 375 page views per day!
    • We have 5 pages with over 10,000 views individually!
  • 10,000 Page Edits
    • 2,000 edits per year
    • 165 edits per month
    • 35 edits per week
    • 5 edits per day!
  • Over 500 content pages
    • 100 per year
    • 8 per month

Pretty awesome and continuing to grow as always. Keep up the good work gentlemen. --FyreFly 23:17, 14 April 2012 (EDT)

Eh, some of those statistics are skewed. Just remember that some sites link to our maps of the world... possibly mistaking them for reality? I really can't tell. Kirkland 05:35, 15 April 2012 (EDT)

Linux v. Windows

I had to tell someone. I figured Kirk would appreciate this. Bluetooth quit working spontaneously on my Windows install, and I had been thinking of installing Linux on my work laptop for awhile (I was sick of X11 tunneling with PuTTY in Windows), so I decided to install it. I was feeling a little bit rusty on my *nix skills, so to get back in the game, I installed ArchLinux (I thought about installing FreeBSD, but that's a bridge too far), a notoriously bitchy distro that makes you do everything from the ground up.

Bluetooth worked out of the box. On a distro that prides itself on installing essentially nothing out of the box. I was slack-jawed.

Linux: 1
Windows: 0
